Change... for the better

Even when we know that a change is for the better, sometimes, things can take a little getting used to.

Tempur is no usual product and it’s fair to say that if you’re used to a traditional mattress or pillow then a new one, with its high levels of support, may feel a little different to start with. That’s normal. It’s also fair to say that it won’t be long though until you’re the very best of friends.

That smell of "new”

There are times when our new Tempur Mattresses can give off a slight odour. The smell is normal; it comes from the material manufacturing process and nearly always disappears in transit. On occasions it may be still be noticeable when it arrives but will usually disappear after a few weeks.

If you find it lingering we suggest you refer to our “Break-in period” which shares information on how to best fully open the material cells to release the remnants of any odour.

Adjusting to room temperatures

Did you know that a Tempur Mattress is temperature sensitive? It’s this sensitivity that helps them conform so comfortably to your body. As the material responds to your body temperature it comforts and supports. In rooms below 18°C or less, your mattress will naturally feel a little firmer than in warmer rooms. Lie on it to feel the mattress soften and shape as your body temperature warms the material. Leave the mattress or pillow and it will return to its original state.

Break-in period

The more time you spend on your mattress the quicker you will break it in. All the time you’re relaxing reading, watching TV or just bouncing around with the kids you’re helping fully open the cells in the material. The more they are able to ‘breathe’ the easier it is for them to be able to respond to weight and temperature and to share that wonderfully comfortable Tempur feeling.

Electric blankets and hot water bottles – best avoided

Tempur don’t recommend the use of electric blankets or hot water bottles with their mattresses.

If you do choose to use an electric blanket then best use an over blanket - it would be safer than an under blanket and should not damage your mattress. Remember, Tempur Mattress are temperature sensitive and you may not experience the optimum support if you use an electric blanket.

This also applies to using hot water bottles with your mattress.

Note too that hot water bottle leaks that stain or damage your mattress will unfortunately invalidate your manufacturer's 15 year limited guarantee.
